The Western Michigan Pigeon Association (WMPA) held its annual all-age, all-breed show in Drenthe, Michigan on November 2nd. Jeff Wozniak was the open show judge. The American Giant Homer Association, Rare Breeds Club, United Oriental Roller Association, and Komorner Tumbler Association also attended. The show had 35 exhibitors with over 50 breeds and 381 entries, our largest show in 30 years!
Jeff Coby took Show Champion with his Pomeranian Pouter, and Doreen Lampe took Reserve Champion with her flying Oriental Roller. In juniors, Champion went to Madison Pounders (German Beauty Homer), Reserve went to Hannah Pounders (Chinese Owl), and 2nd Reserve went to Roslyn Moore (Giant Homer). Club meet champions included Joe Braun (Giant Homer), Colton Friedel (Rare Breed with his Macedonian Shield Owl), Tim England (Komorner Tumbler), Doreen Lampe (Flying Oriental Roller), and Phil Huizinga (Oriental Roller).

Mike Abeare from Northern Michigan donated 100 birds for a new “Junior Donation” program. Juniors could pick 4 to 6 birds for any donation amount and received not only the birds, but also a free one-year membership to the NPA and WMPA. After the juniors, new pigeon fanciers and then experienced hobbyists could get in line. The program was a big hit, with all 100 birds chosen throughout the day. We plan to continue this next year.
The WMPA is growing, and successful shows like these propel the club forward. We try to focus on people by creating a casual, friendly atmosphere, and this show was one of our best. There were smiles on many faces and at the end of the day, isn’t that what it’s all about? Our challenge for 2025 is to keep growing and supporting our members. If you’re in the Midwest next November, stop by. We’d love to have you!
